Weekend Recap

I had such a great weekend and I am sad today is Monday - per usual.  Friday I decided to bust out of work early so that I could go home and clean to get ready for Dupa's birthday celebration that night.  I felt a little bad that I kept Kamden with the sitter while I cleaned, but it was so much easier to get stuff done without him there.  I don't think I have ever cleaned so much in such a short amount of time so I counted that as my work out for the day = winning.  I mean, I was sweating (weird) at the end so it was all the same for me.  I then picked up KB from the sitter, got him ready to stay at his grandma's house, fed him, and off he went to get dropped off again, for the night.  I was sad about him being away for the whole night since I barely saw him that day but it was for the best since we were having so many people over.  The mom guilt definitely hovered around for a while though.  The party was a success - good food, good friends, drinks, nice weather, games, and good times had by all.  Here are the only 2 pictures I have from that night because I am awesome like that:

Erin, me, Leah, Keena, and Dupa!
Charlies Bar
We had some friends in town staying with us that night and ended up having people over after we went to the bar to continue the celebration.  I didn't make it up too much longer after coming home and definitely felt it the next day.  There is a reason why we only have nights like this every once in a while now.  I am not 22 anymore!!!

Saturday I shocked myself and ran 11.89 miles in about 2 hours.  I thought for sure after being out the night before and not drinking nearly enough water that I would make it about 2 miles before Bud would have to come find me and peel me off the side of the road or something.  I am not going to lie, it.was.rough.  We picked up KB around 10:30 that morning, got a greasy burger and fries on the way home....and a soda because this girl needed it after the night before.  It was delicious - I'm not even mad.  BUT, not the best pre-meal before a long run.  I then took about an hour nap (thank you Bud).  When I woke up I knew that I just had to get this run done and over with.  I thought about pushing it off until Sunday but I knew that I would probably end up skipping it if I did that.  Plus, my 1/2 marathon is a week away and it's GO TIME!!!  So, I got myself ready and just started running.  I have about a 7 or so mile loop that I had planned out so I figured I would run that, stop home for water, and then continue on until I reached 12 miles.  Well, just as I was finishing up that 7 mile loop I told myself to just keep running.  I figured I would just run as long as I could and stop if I needed to.  I have the app "mapmyrun" and it updates me every mile I run with how long I have been running, how fast my splits are, etc.  So I at least had a general idea of how far I had to go throughout my run.  I don't know what happened but somehow I finished the entire run (well almost the entire run - 11.89/12 miles) before coming home.  I walked here and there, but overall I ran it at a decent pace.

If I can keep a 10 minute/mile pace for the 1/2 marathon I will be extremely happy.  I still can't believe I am running that on THIS Saturday!  AHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Kevin always knows exactly how I am feeling
After my run, my husband, KB, and I went to my sister-in-law's house to grill out.  It was just what the doctor ordered - filet mignon on the grill, potatoes, veggies = delish.  We didn't stay too late so that we could get Kamden to bed at a decent time.  Both my husband and I were exhausted by the time we got home and we were both in bed and sleeping before 11pm.  It was glorious.  Plus, it wasn't my night to get up with KB so I slept in until about 9/9:30 the next morning.  I was definitely rejuved when I woke up.

Sunday, Bud went golfing with some friends all day and my friend and I had plans to take our boys for a walk up Rib Mountain since it was so nice out.  I thought that after running on Saturday that my legs would be fried on Sunday but they felt good!  So I packed up KB and the jogging stroller and then picked up my mom's dog, Abby, and headed to meet Erin and Jakob at the mountain.  The entire walk is about 3 or so miles total up and down the mountain.  It was an awesome work out, especially pushing a stroller and pulling a little pup the whole way.  Abby is a little white puff ball and I was a little nervous about bringing her along, not knowing if she would make it or not.  She made it, but towards the end she would randomly just stop walking and sprawl out on the sidewalk in an attempt to get me to carry her.  I did carry her for like 5 minutes, which really tested my coordination while pushing the stroller, but that was all I could hack until I had to put her back down.  Overall, I loved this little walk and hope to do this much more often this summer.  Plus, we had some pretty cute walking buddies to accompany us:

We couldn't get them to look at the camera at the same time - KB was WAAAY too interested in the straps on his stroller
After our walk, KB took a 2 hour nap!!!!  I could tell he was pooped from all the fresh air so I am glad he slept that long.  In the meantime I cleaned out my car because it was a huge pit.  When he woke up I noticed he has another tooth coming in!  Right next to his other one on the bottom. :)  Yesterday I tried to spend as much time outside as possible.  Even if it was just to sit outside, or wander around my house aimlessly.  Which I did.  This blue eyed beauty loved it:

Love
I loved this last weekend!  I loved that we got to spend so much time outside in the nice weather, spend time with friends, spend time with family, be active, and overall we just enjoyed ourselves.  If only every weekend could be like this (minus running 11.89 miles after a night of acting like a fish and being away from KB for a full day/night)!!!

Welp, back to work.  Only 3 more work-outs before I take 2 rest days and then the...dun, dun, dun....HALF MARATHON!!!!  I am putting together a list of songs to add to my 1/2 marathon playlist.  I like upbeat music - rap, hip hop, anything really - so if you have any must-have songs, comment below!  Help a sista out!! :)

See ya later suckas!

C....O....Rrrrrr You Going To The Mall Later, That's What I Was Asking?

Happy Thursday!  One more day until Friday and I am so pumped!  Tomorrow we are celebrating my dear friend, Dupa's Birthday!!!
Happy Early Birthday Dupa-Loop!
I am very excited to have a night at our house with our friends!!  I am looking forward to a night of grilling out, bags, games, being in WARM weather, and having some adult beverages without having to worry about KB.  KB gets to spend the night at his grandma's house tomorrow night.  And today he is at his other granny's house all day.  Lucky boy!
Tomorrow the high is in the low 60s and I feel like I should break out my bikini (yeah right) warm weather clothes to celebrate!!!  With this nice weather approaching the first thing that crossed my mind is shopping.  I really need a shopping spree ASAP.  Last summer I was pregnant so I didn't really buy anything outside of maxi skirts and extra large tank tops....and sandals that could fit these ogre feet:
Cankes to the max

The long skirt covered up the ogres
So, this year I am hoping to get a few things to spark up my closet again.  I NEED TO!!!  (says every woman that wants new clothes)  Don't worry Bud, I will not be doing this for a while BUT it will be happening at some point.  I am sorry in advance.  I am not going to go cray, but I will be getting a few things.  So there's that.
Anyway, I laid out my work out plan a couple days ago leading up to my first 1/2 marathon (insert dry heaves).  I have been doing pretty good!  I haven't done every single thing I listed BUT I have worked out every day so far.  Last night I decided to have another go at the jogging stroller.  I took KB out in it last week for a couple miles (maybe) and I thought I was going to die.  It was a lot harder than I had expected.  Last night I was supposed to run 5 miles but the weather was decent after work and I wanted to take KB out to take advantage.  I made it just under 3.5 miles which should really equal 6 miles since I was pushing that little bugger the whole time.  I found my groove with the jogger so that was good.  Hopefully it just gets easier from here.  On a side note, minus the whole running with a stroller thing, I love the jogging stroller I have.  My uncle's sister (he is my uncle by marriage otherwise I would have just said aunt) gave me her jogging stroller last fall right before I had KB and it's freaking awesome.  It's so nice!  I can plug my iPhone into it and it has speakers that blast the music so I can listen to that while paying attention to KB and traffic.  GENIUS.  It was a little awkward when I was blasting Lil Wayne while running past a family playing in their yard, but there was no swearing at that time so it was all good in the hood.  Also, I will enjoy my thug rap around Bud Jr. just until he is able to talk...then I will be getting the family friendly versions of my thug rap. :)

That's all I have for now.  I hope today flies and tomorrow is here with sunshine and warmth!

See ya later suckas!

Random Story

As I am sitting here, working my tail off making myself look busy, this random memory popped into my head and I feel the need to share.  So here goes....

Back when I was in HS, I was mostly a goody-goody.  I was in student council (senior class prez, holla!!! hahahahahaha), got (for the most part) good grades, played sports, and was involved other extra-curricular activities.  I didn't really party much, I was always home by my curfew, and every time I was in a bad situation my guilt would most likely take over and I would bail.  Reminds me of the time in 6th grade when I climbed a tree in my friend's yard and cried while my 2 besties tried cigarettes for the first time.  I thought they would be doomed for life after that - scuzzies that only smoked cigs, drank alcohol straight from the bottle, would only wear black, and they would smell bad (that was the picture I painted in my head - I was in 6th grade, cripes!).   Talk about a flashback!!!

Okay, on to the real story.  I think it was around my senior year of HS when my mom extended my curfew to midnight on the weekends, and eventually I really didn't have one.  I was dating this boy (most awkward relationship ever) and we would hang out at his house, watch movies, talk (for real, we would talk...no funny business.  I told you this relationship was awkward), whatever.
For some reason though, I would always end up staying over at his house really late...sometimes like 2-3 in the morning.  My mom knew where I was, so it's all good but for some reason every time I would come home I would "sneak in" because I was afraid she would wake up and be mad that it was so late.  So one night, or morning, around 2ish, I drove home.  As I pulled up to my house I turned my headlights off so they wouldn't shine into a window and wake her up. I creeped up to the side door of our house, opened it as quietly as possible and stepped in.  The entry way to the side door was really small - basically big enough to come in the door, shut the door, and then either step down the stairs to the basement or step up to the kitchen.  Well, it was REALLY dark in the entry way.  So dark, that my eyes never adjusted and I seriously could not see a thing.  As I was closing the door, all I could hear was this thumping on the stairs.  It sounded like someone was running up the stairs at me but I couldn't see a thing so I freaked out.  I bolted so fast into the kitchen, blasting my hip on the kitchen table, turning on every light I could find, heart beating so fast, maybe a tinkle or two running down my leg, only to turn around to nothing.  What the crap was running up the stairs at me?  Well I pictured this:
Oh don't worry, it was just this:
I must have knocked a shoe down our basement stairs when I opened the door and that is what scared the bejesus out of me!  I don't think I have ever been more startled in my life.  This is a situation where my love of horror movies clearly backfired.

I don't know why that story popped into my head just now but every time after that incident I would make sure that no shoe would ever get the best of me again.  Then I bought these really cute boots a couple years later that made me want to cut my feet off.
Okay, that's all I have.  Happy Tuesday!  We are one day closer to the weekend! :)

See ya later suckas!

Annnnnnd It's Go Time

Oh Monday, why are you such a sh*t!?  You always arrive too early and seem to drag on until the very last second.  Boo to you.
Anyway, somehow today I feel extra motivated.  I am ready to kick my own a$$ after slacking the last week so I have decided it's go time.  I have less than 2 weeks until my 1/2 marathon and I feel about 80% ready.  So here is my game plan up until I run 13.1 miles.  EEEEEEEEEEEEK!

Monday, April 22:
  • Run for 45 minutes (easy pace) Done! well, I only ran 30 minutes because I wasn't able to start until after 8:30pm

  • Drown in my own sweat and/or pass out from the stank I didn't drown but I was pretty close
Sunday, April 28:
  • 45 minutes - treadmill intervals or 4 mile run outside Walked up Rib Mt. with my friend and her son and of course KB.  Total walk was about 3 or so miles but was defnitely a challenge pushing a stroller up a mountain.

  • REST or Yoga
Friday, May 3:
  • REST
Saturday, May 4:
  • 1/2 MARATHON BABY!
  • PARTY
Okay, I know the above plan is a lot, but I really want to whip myself back into a routine.  I know it will pay off so I just need to stick to it.  Warmer weather is FINALLY in the forecast, which always motivates me so my goal is to stick to this plan...it's just 13 days after all.  I like short term goals because I don't get bored as fast and I can usually stick to them.  After the 1/2 marathon, my goal is to work-out 4-5 days/week.

In other news, KB popped a tooth last week!!  That little man is growing at the speed of light!  Here are some pics from the weekend:
Not feeling the sweet shades I got from work
Silly boy
Even though the hat is cute and all, I think it would look better if that green was purple instead :)
"Sunday is supposed to be nice", they said...
"Sunday should be nicer than Saturday", they said...
If you look REAL close you might see a little toofer on his bottom, left poking through
Welp, see ya later suckas!

Finish the......

Another finish the sentence link-up!  I likey because it allows me to not think so hard about what I want to post about.  So here she is....

button

1. I laughed so hard I cried when....I found this picture from my freshman year of college the other night.  This is my roommate and I.  Somehow we created these faces for times when things got awkward....aka times like this picture:
I am not gonna lie, I can't help but make this face as I am writing this.
Check out the eyebrow ring....Devon=bad ass
2. My high school...was the set for the movie Angus.  Most people have probably not heard of this movie but Dawson, I mean, James Van Der Beek was in it!

One of the most awkward HS movies ever.  Try watching this without wanting to find all your Green Day cassette tapes!
Good ole OHS
"Did you know there used to be a POOL in the basement??" hahaha
3. It really pisses me off...when people drive side by side on a 2-lane road going the same snail-like speed.  STOP IT!!!

4. In ten years...I hope to be rich and doing something I love.  Oh, and I hope that the climate shifts and Wisconsin is warm all year round.

5. If I could erase one thing...it would be walking in on my friend's dad going #2 when I was in 3rd grade.  I was scarred for a very long time.
6. In 1999...I played HS hockey, snowboarded almost every day after school (that I didn't have hockey), and listened to a lot of punk music.

7. Honestly...what's the deal with Grape Nuts??...I open the box, no grapes, no nuts...WHAT'S THE DEAL??!!
 8. To me, Sushi...is really good but I never eat it because every time I do, I get a gut rot stomach ache.  Apparently I am not part shark and can't eat raw fish.

9. Someone really needs to invent...a contraption that gives me a killer work-out while I watch re-runs of Saved By The Bell and eat ice-cream.

10. The first time I drank alcohol...was the winter of my senior year of HS.  I went to my first college party with my ex boyfriend who was a freshman in college at the time.  We pre-gamed it in the dorms aka I was gonzo by the time we went to the house party.  When we got to the party I immediately walked up the 2 flights of stairs to the bathroom.  As I was walking out of the bathroom I tripped and rolled down the first flight of stairs, my body smacked up against the wall and bounced me down the second flight of stairs, only to land at the feet of a big crowd of people.  Needless to say, that was the end of my first college experience and I didn't drink again for a long time.  It was also my most embarrassing moment to date.

11. The one question I would ask God is...how do you do it?

12. Lindsay Lohan...needs to find an island and stay there.

Now for a throwback picture...

Whatever Wednesday

Today is cruising along quite graciously - just the way I like it.  My work inbox has about 3 emails in it (no panic attacks here), I am up to speed with all my projects, I got up this morning and was able to shower, blow dry my hair, wear my hair down, AND put on make-up (doesn't happen often).  Today is already considered a win in my book.  Now if I can get myself to work out after work, I will call today a win-win (man, I am clever).

On this hump day, I would like to talk about the things I am saying "whatever" to today.  Here they are:

1) The dress pants I am wearing today are missing the top button because I tried to squeeze into them when I was pregnant - fail.  I now have a belt holding my pants up and I am wearing a longer shirt to cover it all up.  Whatever.  The belt loops on these pants actually sit below the button so the top of my pants flip out a bit and looks like I am pregnant again.

2) All my dress clothes are probably black, grey, or white.  At least none of them look like this:
Whatever.

3) I have been bringing hummus, mushrooms, and snap peas to work as a snack all week.  As I was eating my snack today I noticed this:
"Please enjoy within 7 days after opening"
I am pretty sure I bought and opened this like 2 weeks ago, maybe longer.  Whatever.  At least I am not drinking expired milk because that is the WORST!!!!  Insert puke face.

4) I ran 2 miles with KB in the jogging stroller after work last night and thought I was gonna die.  I ran 10 miles last Saturday (by myself) and felt really good afterwards and probably could have kept going.  What the crap!!??  Whatever.

5) I wasn't able to make it to my work gathering after work last night for drinks.  Instead, I went home, made dinner, had a glass of wine (or 2) and pretended I was there in spirit.  Whatever.

6) In regards to #5 above, I conveniently left out that I also had a couple beers.  Whatever.  On a side note, if you have never tried a honey bear (1/2 Leinie's Honey Weiss and 1/2 Leinie's Berry Weiss) go to the store right now and pick some up.  Then try to tell me how you can only have 1.  SOOO GOOD!  Perfect summer beverage.

7) Last week I had a day where I was able to get up, shower, blow dry my hair, wear it down and curled, etc.  I came to work and a coworker asked me if I lightened my hair.  I told him that it was just clean for once.  Whatever.  Stay classy Devon.

8) I cross my fingers and look at the extended forecast daily in hopes that it changes and the temps are higher.  They never really are and I get mad every time.  Whatever.

9) Every year after winter, or approaching the end of winter, I decide that I am done wearing jackets.  It usually happens too soon but I stick it out knowing that I really won't need one soon.  This year I stopped wearing a jacket in the beginning of March, and it was still snowing this last weekend.  Now I am wearing my jacket again.  Whatever.

10) Last, but not least, I am really anal and have been trying to think of my 10th whatever for this list because I like even numbers, but cannot.  Whatever.

Welp, here's to another post in the books about nothing!  Happy Hump Day!

Look At This Gem

I am doing another link-up today (yay, me!)!!!  I was supposed to find a picture from my yearbook years, but I could not pass up this little gem and felt the need to post this:

Let me break this picture down for you....
  • I was 4 years old and obsessed with the colors purple and pink
  • I had two fish - Jessica and Tiffany (both died from me over-feeding them aka dumping all their food in the bowl at one time)
  • I hated my name and wished it was Jessica or Tiffany
  • I loved the cartoons Duck Tales, Chip & Dale's Rescue Rangers, Fraggle Rock, Loony Tunes, Scooby Doo, and Gummy Bears (if you have never heard of Gummy Bears, do yourself a favor and look it up!!)
  • I may or may not have said "I hate my nipples" when referring to my dimples on my face
  • Someone told me that the gummy worms I was eating were real worms and I cried my eyes out and spit out my gummy worms everywhere
  • I was deathly afraid of bugs
  • I had a mini boom box with a microphone that I would make police siren noises into all the time (totally normal)
  • I was introduced to scary movies by my grandma and loved them.  I used to watch Pet Semetary, Child's Play, Cujo and would never be phased.  I used that to my advantage when I would make my cousin Michael watch them with me and then "go to the bathroom" while he was sitting alone, only to creep up on him and scare the bejesus out of him!
Now, do yourself a favor and hop on over to Holly's blog to see other yearbook photos - there are definitely more gems out there.
button

Now to a totally un-related topic.  One that is so very heavy on so many people's minds and hearts.  One that no one can relate to, unless they were there or have family or friends that were there.  I am sure you know already, but I am talking about the tragedy that struck at the Boston Marathon yesterday.  To say I was in total shock would not even come close to how I felt yesterday when hearing the news.  All I can say is that my prayers are with the runners, families, and friends that were affected by the soul-less cowards that did this.  I cannot begin to fathom the impact that this tragedy has on the Boston community, the Boston Marathon, and most importantly the lives of those that were altered or taken yesterday.  What should have been such a joyous day for so many, turned into one of the worst days, if not, the worst day ever.  My prayers are with you Boston.

What I can take away from this is that the good in this world far outweighs the bad.  This has been shown countless times before, and it was shown yesterday with the out pour of support shown from volunteers, innocent bystanders, and runners.  All we can do is focus on that and not give the scum the satisfaction of breaking our pride.  We are part of such a great nation and cannot let this take that away from us.  Nothing ever will.

Glorious

This little man slept through the night last night!

He did wake up at 11:00pm to cry it out for a bit, but he went back to bed and slept until 7:15am!

Wanna see a picture that freaked out my husband?

You're welcome.

Okay, that's all I have.  Happy Friday!
