Weekend Recap (a day late)

Last weekend Kamden and I made the trip to Minnesota to visit my grandma, my aunt Sassy (her real name is Lee Anne), my cousin Connor, my aunt Lisa, and my aunt Tracey.  Originally I was going back for my 10 Year High School Reunion but decided that I would rather spend time with my family.  Also, my husband couldn’t make it back home with me and there was no way I was showing up to that thing alone. J
I had such a good time with my family and was really glad I made the trip back.  Even though my grandpa, uncles, and cousins were all away hunting that weekend, it was fun to have some girl time (with a side of boy time with Kamden and my cousin Connor J).  We spent most of the weekend just hanging out at my grandma’s house.  Since my family wasn’t able to make it for Kamden’s birthday party a few weeks ago, they had presents waiting for him to open.  It was fun to see him with his new toys because he is at the age where he is starting to understand how certain things work.  To see him make the connection was pretty cool and fun to watch.  Also, Kamden was so cute to my grandma.  With only being able to see her every month or so I was hoping he would not be shy, and he wasn’t.  In no longer than 5 minutes of seeing her, he walked up to her and put his head on her shoulder.  Totally melts my heart.  He is so sweet.  I could tell he had a great time being with everyone and running around like a mad man.  J  I still am in shock that he is walking.  He still has the wobble in his step, but every day he is getting better (and faster).
Saturday night we rented The Heat and Mama.  My grandma and I love scary movies and are probably really the only ones in our family that do.  When I was younger my grandma actually let me watch scary movies like Cujo, Pet Semetary (I know how to spell cemetery, promise), and Child’s Play.  I was probably 4 or 5 years old at the time and was never scared of these movies.  So that was our thing.  My cousin Michael on the other hand, was not a fan of scary movies at all.  I used that to my advantage A LOT to scare the crap out of him on a daily basis growing up. J  Anyway, we watched The Heat first with everyone and it was seriously hilarious.  I want to watch it again.  After that movie, my aunt Sassy and cousin Connor went home along with my aunt Tracey.  My grandma went to bed shortly after we started Mama because she had already seen it, and my aunt Lisa and I watched it.  It wasn’t really scary at all and had a decent story line, but the end was super cheesy.  A little disappointing.  After that movie I tried watching SNL and turned it off within 10 minutes.  Why is that show so lame at times???  I wish Kristen Wiig was still on the show.  She is my fave.  Anyway, I decided that I might as well just go to bed since KB would probably be up around 7/7:30am.  My grandma bought a crib for her spare room so that’s where Kamden and I stayed.  After being asleep for over an hour or so, I was woken up by the loudest, scariest, blood curdling, scream I have ever heard out of Kamden.  No lie, the hairs on my arms were standing straight up and my heart sank into my stomach.  I bolted out of bed and went to see what was wrong with KB and he was just laying in the crib screaming and crying.  So many thoughts ran through my head as to what could be wrong.  I picked him up and turned on the lamp by my bed as he screamed into my ear.  When the lights came on I noticed his eyes were still closed and he seemed to be half asleep still.  He screamed for about 5 minutes which seemed like an hour.  In the midst of his screams, he yelled “MAAAAAMAAAAAAA!!!!” and I immediately thought of the movie I had just watched and was freaked OUT!  I looked him over for any sort of rash, bruise, cut, bug bite - felt his head to see if he had a fever, and nothing was wrong that I could see.  I am pretty sure he had a nightmare or something because he calmed down and went right to back to sleep like nothing had happened.  I on the other hand, laid there listening to his baby snores, imagining “Mama” floating around my room and was creeped out.  Not cool KB, not cool.
The next morning we all met up for a pancake breakfast and afterwards I made the trip back to WI.  Luckily, as I was packing up to leave my grandma’s, my grandpa, uncles, and cousins were just getting back into town from their hunting trip.  It was nice to see them even though it was only for 20 minutes or so.  I am looking forward to making the trip back for Thanksgiving!  I love my family so much and just wish we were a little closer so that we could make the trip more often.  Maybe when I win the lottery on Wednesday night I will just buy a lake house in the middle of Owatonna and Wausau.  J
The rest of the weekend was spent watching football and cleaning.  Story of my life.  I am still bummed the Vikes couldn’t pull out a win against the Pack on Sunday night, but in the same breath, I am pretty pumped that the first play of the game was a kick return for a Vikings touchdown.  That play right there won me my fantasy football game last week.  J  So at least there’s that.
On a complete random side note, when is it ever okay to talk on your cell phone, while on speaker, and walk around cube land at work?????  If you said never, you are correct.  It’s also extra annoying and creepy when the sounds coming out of the phone are just a deep voiced, man….breathing heavily….
Now for a phone dump:
Kamden has started putting his finger in his nose.  I see booger covered walls in my near future.

Home sick with Kamden last week

Thursday Thoughts, Part Deux

Yesterday I went to the mall on my break to get KB some bigger onsies (that boy is growing at the speed of light) and stopped at Subway to get some cookies and a diet coke.  I needed my mid-afternoon sugar rush and that was just the right fix.  Well, you get 3 cookies for howevermuch, and when I got back to work I was only going to eat 2 and save the 3rd for today.  Well, now I am sitting here craving a cookie because I ate all 3 yesterday afternoon.  I am not even mad…well, maybe a little since now I am stuck here without a cookie.
Speaking of cookies, I have been on a sweet kick lately and I can’t stop…I won’t stop….can’t you see it’s me who loves to bite….everything sugary that’s in sight….eeeeyeaaaah eeeeyeaaahhh (it's my cookie I can eat if I want to).  You’re welcome.  But for real, I bought Starbursts and Skittles the other day and all of which are basically gone already.  Sidenote: my brother was here last week and had a hand in the candy eating, but still.  I need to knock it off….until we take KB trick or treating and I am forced to eat all his candy.
All of the candy eating lately has really got me thinking about a new work-out routine.  With the colder weather coming I will NOT be running outside anymore.  I would rather hit up the deathmill for an hour than have my sweat freeze into ice chunks on my face arms ass.  Swass, if you will.  So, at-home work outs will need to start ASAP aka Monday since I can’t start anything unless it’s on a Monday.
Bud got mad at me for being too particular about our outfits for family pictures last night.  All I said was that he can’t wear black shoes when the rest of us (KB and I) are wearing brown.  That’s all.  I know, ridic.
AMERICAN HORROR STORY!!!!!!!  I love this show.  I love that every season is a different story, I love that previous characters from past seasons play new roles, and I LOVE that Kathy Bates is on this season.  I think she plays the best villain/evil person/crazy lady and is perfect for this show.  I cannot wait to see how the rest of the season pans out.  If you have not watched this show, I highly recommend that you start to right meow.  Like meow.
TOOT-TOOT!!  I am in 1st out of about 30 people in our NFL pick ‘em league.  There is not really a method behind my madness picks, but so far whatever I am doing seems to be working.  Annnnnnd, I just jinxed myself.
Anyone want to buy a Cougar? No, I am not talking about an older woman who frequents clubs in order to score with a much younger man and can be anyone from an overly surgically altered wind tunnel victim, to an absolute sad and bloated old horn-meister, to a real life hottie or milf (urbandictionary.com) - I am talking about a 2002 Mercury Cougar that I once called my baby.  We are selling her.  I am a little sad but not too sad since I (by I, I mean Bud) do not want to shovel around that thing sitting in our driveway all winter.
I have a constant tickle in my throat that I assumed was from a cold or allergies, but decided it would be a great idea to Google it.  Now I am dying.
I think that’s all.  Happy almost Friday! J

Thursday Thoughts

Cellphone ear pieces are like the fanny pack of backpacks/purses.  Pretty handy but makes you look like a moron.  Quit talking to yourself!!!
I capped my evening off last night with a couple glasses of wine and potato chips and French onion dip.  I felt a little guilty as I went to bed but when I woke up I was a pound lighter.  So I guess my dreams have come true.  Wine counts as fruit, and potato chips count as vegetables.  Devon for the win.
My husband is in Chicago for work until Friday and last night I decided to rearrange our bedroom.  Apparently my idea of a relaxing night alone is ramming myself into furniture to get it to move.  If I do say so myself (which I am currently doing….so I don’t really get that saying), our room is much more inviting now and made me want to hang out in it all night.  It also could be because I finally got the TV in our room to work with Direct TV.  And because that’s where I put the wine and potato chips.  Tomato Tom-ahhhh-toe.
I dropped Kamden off at daycare this morning for the first time ever (I am the one to pick him up normally) and prepared myself for him to start crying.  Well he didn’t.  He actually smiled as I walked away.  I am a little sad about it.  Whatever.
I did not want to get out of bed this morning (see: wine and potato chips) so when Kamden woke up I brought him in our bed to watch a cartoon while I laid there wishing the time would start reversing.  It was basically like a reenactment of a Pinterest fail.  I thought he would be all snuggly and just curl up and watch his cartoon.  In reality that lasted a whole 5 minutes and then there was a foot in my face and an elbow in my side.
So what if I am imagining myself getting drenched by a Gatorade beer shower after the Wrut Run this Saturday??!!?
Wanna hear something that will blow your mind?  Okay then - what if oxygen was a poison that takes 75-100 years to kill us???  Riddle me THAT!!!!  I came across that question a while back on Pinterest or something and it freaks me out!!
I made a baked pasta the other night and it was delish.   I had leftovers last night and gave KB some and he loved it too.  You can start calling me Devon Crocker.
My dad, stepmom, and brother are coming to visit for a week starting on Sunday.  I am so excited to see them!!!!  My dad likes to have a good time so it will basically be a week-long party at our house.  Cheers!!  Plus, my dad likes red wine more than I do…..so there’s that.
This is funny:
So is this:
...and this:
...by funny I meant creepy.

I think that’s it for now.  Happy almost Friday!!!

Walmartians

I went to Walmart on my break today to get some groceries so that after work when I pick up KB we can head straight to Rib Mountain where I will jam another run in before the Wrut Run this Saturday.  Like every other trip to Walmart, this one was quite interesting.  There are a handful of occurrences that happen every single time I go there.  Case and point à someone shits their pants.  No lie - every time I go there I am overcome by the smell of shit.  It’s usually a kid with a dirty diaper, but more times than I would like to think about, it’s an adult minding their own business as if they didn’t just burn the nose hairs right out of my nostrils.  Occurrence number 2 (see what I did there?) à people aimlessly walk around as if they are the only ones in the store.  You know, the people that are looking at their list that just stop right in the middle of an isle when you are right behind them, causing you to either run your cart into their backside or take out a couple boxes of cereal.  Real fun.  And then they glare at you as if you are the one causing problems.  The nerve.   Occurrence number three à the every so friendly talkers.  Don’t get me wrong, I love a good ole convo with a stranger.  Only this time I was on my break and I didn’t have time to pretend I knew anything about Dungeons and Dragons.  See below:

So there you have it.  A run-down of my typical Walmart experience.  A couple honorable mentions would be the very popular mother screaming at her children, the cart with the wobbly wheel that I always seem to grab and not notice until I am too far away to get a different cart, and getting the red face after about 5 minutes of being in the store because I am usually on a mission and people be creeping like they have all the time in the world.  I am assuming I am not the only one that has these occurrences, so I am sure many of you can relate.  And since I was on my break and already running late, I got stuck in traffic for another 20 minutes because a semi decided to try and take a dip in the lake.  I don’t think anyone was hurt because when I crept by the scene of the accident the policeman was laughing….unless he is incredibly evil.  I guess I will never know (just read the news, idiot).  Anyway, guess what day it is tomorrow?????????
Red Face Out.
